Spence Field Shelter-Double Spring Gap Shelter. 196.4 done/1993.4 to go. March 28, 2017.

I sure am glad I was in a shelter last night. It rained hard. I was up by 5:30 again. That’s my usual wake up time. It gives me time to cook oatmeal and pack. I’m usually waiting for the sun to rise so I can start hiking.

Today was a tough day. The trails were very technical with lots of climbing plus they were muddy today.

Again it was overcast and very foggy today. Most of the beautiful vistas were not worth photographing.

There are seven people in the shelter tonight. Tasteless again. Also Nasty Santa, Homeboy, J Bell and Chico.

Tomorrow I will climb Clingman’s Dome, the highest elevation on the Appalachian Trail. Hopefully it won’t be foggy.

Also tomorrow one of my previous coworkers friends is picking me up to go to town, resupply, shower and do laundry.

  1. Hey Red G! Reading your post from yesterday and seeing the rainbow pics, then I read this: “People who are wise learn to treasure rainbow days as gifts. They store them up to remember on days when God seems more elusive.” I have a feeling you could store several up for all of us over the next 2000 miles. I hope the sun comes out for you tomorrow…but without rain there wouldn’t be rainbows 🌈 where dreams come true🎶
