Sabbath Day Pond Lean To-Maine Hwy 4. 1969.4 miles done/220.4 to go. 89.93% completed. July 10, 2017.

9.4 uneventful miles today. That is except for the extreme mud.

I am in Rangely Maine doing what I expect to be my second to last resupply. I am packing out more food this time. I need to go another 100 miles on what I’ll have in my pack. That makes me nervous. In the past if I’m hungry I’ve just eaten more and stopped for resupply sooner. There aren’t as many opportunities to do that the rest of the way.

I’m just going to have to stick to my meal plan. I think I have it planned right, but there may be times I just stay hungry.

The best scenario would be to hike the next 100 miles faster than I expect. It’s a great feeling when you know you’re going for resupply and you have excess food. Then the day or two before you get to eat more.

French Dip and I hitched to town together. It’s about nine miles from the trail. I met French Dip about ten days ago and keep seeing him. He and I are going about the same speed. I may not see him anymore though because he’s taking a zero tomorrow and I’m not. He got his name because when he and his friends ran out of potato chips he was so hungry he ate the French onion dip with a spoon.

It looks like there’s a 100% chance of rain tomorrow. I’m hiking anyway. I may have to go slower because of it but at this point I just want to keep moving.

It also looks like I’m starting a harder section again. I’m not sure how long that lasts, but I know it gets easier again too.

My friend Timber summited Mt Katahdin a couple of days ago. Congratulations Timber. I think Engineer will make it in about five days. My friend Maple Syrup is still at home recuperating. He’ll be back to finish, no doubt.

  1. Hoping you get a few “trail magic” surprises b4 your next re supply. Rather I’ll be praying for God’s people to bless you along the next 100 miles. I have all the confidence you’ll make it! Proverbs 3:5-6
