Unicoi Gap-Deep Gap Shelter 65.7 done/2124.1 to go March 20, 2017

Today was a good day. Keith and I started at 7:45 This morning. It was about 40 degrees. It feels like about 60 right now (4:00pm). The terrain was easier today. There was a little less steep climbing today, but the big thing that made it easier was the much less technical terrain. We had a lot of smooth dirt to hike on today.

I had motel food for breakfast. A big waffle. Snacked on some trail mix and a dark chocolate Milky Way for lunch.  Tonight I’m going to try dehydrated spaghetti with meat sauce.

Beautiful scenery. I didn’t know Georgia had mountains. I’m staying in my tent again even though I got here early enough to get a spot in the shelter. I kind of like having my own space. Plus I like getting up earlier than most of the other hikers. I’m sure they wouldn’t appreciate my snoring anyway.

Netta parked their vehicle at a trailhead and hiked about four miles to get to our campsite. She will be camping with us.

My solar charger is working pretty good charging my phone.

The only issue I’m having is chapped lips. I haven’t had dry or chapped lips my whole life. I’m not sure why now.

Tomorrow it looks like we may be crossing the state line leaving Georgia and entering North Carolina. We’ll see how it goes.

  1. I was wondering how you were keeping your phone charged. Looks like you’re keeping a good, comfortable pace – just keep “putting one foot in front of the other…” just like Emma said.
