I woke up early enough to see the sunrise from the upper deck of the barracks.
Ryan and I ate a very hearty breakfast in the mess hall at Fort Robinson. Ryan is 26 years old and I’ve never seen him drink coffee. Why this morning? Well, coffee was included with breakfast and Ryan is determined to get his money’s worth.
We started our venture today out with a couple of side trips. First was Toadstool Geological Park. Also know as the “badlands” of Nebraska. Pretty cool sod house there too.
Next we went to an archeological dig of about 600 prehistoric bison. The bones are confirmed to be between 9,000 and 10,000 years old. Very interesting. The 30 minute tour
was well worth the time and money.
We ate Mexican for lunch in Casper Wyoming.
We made it to Grand Tetons a day early and we got in the same hostel we are booked for tomorrow night. So tomorrow we’ll do a day hike, then Friday we’ll take off for our three day back country hike. We learned today we’ll be hiking and camping in snow. We’re very excited.
The Hostel/Cabin Ryan is awesome. Right at the foot of Grand Teton. I’ll take a picture of it tomorrow. The best thing is $27 per night.
We ate pizza at a historic restaurant tonight. It was here before this was a National Park.
Glad you are able to have this experience with your son. Looks like a fabulous trip.
